I'm thinking the "homage" gene is reinforced through slaughter and war. The first to meet their deaths are artists, poets, philosophers, and anyone with an IQ above room temperature. The survivors reproduce like rabbits, or perhaps even lower rodent species... Lemmings come to mind. Alas...
