Since then (30 years older) I got a grander vision of this being and it is way WAY beyond exercising micro-controls. I get the feeling that it believes in real freedom (which is why we do that too, I s'pose) it also has a tremendous sense of humour, which is not necessarily all white. It teaches harsh lessons and there MUST be a reason for that..... there is a destination, far beyond our understanding but I think the animals, insects and plants know what it is. Their silence sometimes speaks volumes.... I spent a hermit 4 years in the company of animals and they have a spirituality that I don't see between people.
My animals taught me that I am one mighty dumb clutz. The cats used to enjoy watching me wash dishes and clothes by hand - they would exchange glances which literally took the piss.... they were laughing at me!

Nowadays I have no pets but I meet next door's cat out in the front garden at dawn most mornings. We moan about the weather. She hates rain and we have had a lot of that all year! We have a squirrel family, half a dozen pigeon families, crows and rooks and very tiny extremely fast little birds living in our trees so I am not entirely deprived of animal company! Passing neighbours dogs like to come and grin at me, usually dragging their owners. They seem to know that I am that dumb clutz who loves them to bits.
