The co-founder of Sam Ye-Ling wrote this book. To get out of Tibet was brutal. This book's content was the subject of a business book by one of his student's and I found it in the SF Library when I was living there 20 years ago. It was my first exposure to Tibetan Buddhism.
We are studying this now since we are near the end of the program. He sent a couple of pictures of the book Taming the Tiger which I can’t post. With substack won’t let me or I’m computer illiterate.

Oh no not near 20 years, he’s been reading about for many years but only started taking classes a couple of years ago. He’s still gotta ways to go. I’ve got a culinary degree amongst others, so I find this stuff all very interesting. I have played with lots of different styles/diets of food. Raw both animal and vegetable, macrobiotic, Vedic, Japanese, vegan to name a few. I like the parameters/structure that cuisine give and see how to make the food delish, within those set parameters. It can be tough if you’ve had everything at your disposal and now you have to create a dish say, with no processed starch, no processed sugar, no meat or dairy, oh ya before I forget, nothing can be cooked above 47-48C. Most would fold. If you have any suggestions on great TCM cookbooks I’m all ears.
I have written very few articles about TCM and only for the layman to understand the absolute basics. If he is studying I can recommend certain books, to provide a good general background.
I am finding it hard to equate (in my mind) ancient TCM with modern 'woke' - there is something very incongruous going on there and it hurts my head! 🤣😂
Does he study the I Ching at all? The Tao te Ching by Lao Tsu? These are the source of true Taoist philosophy and need to be fully grasped before moving onto diagnostics.
The Yellow Emperor's Classic of Internal Medicine is essential reading and then the Barefoot Doctor's Manual provides an introduction to healing modalities and strategies.
The only book from Tibet that I recommend is the Tibetan Book of the Dead and beyond that, tell him to visit a monastery. This depends on where he lives, of course.
Here in the UK we have Samye Ling in Scotland and that has wonderful lamas teaching all the traditional arts. Their food is so yummy, don't go - unless you want to gain a few pounds!

My favorite winter hat came from the factory with a printed pattern aluminum lining tight enough to act as a Faraday shield.
It's meant to be light and sporty with the aluminum to reflect lost heat back to one's head.
