Funny story:

I love John Martyn's music but I have to confess that I attended several of his live concerts yet never heard most of them!

My husband and I would move heaven and earth to find out where John Martyn was performing and get there by whatever means possible. By the third or fourth track I would have tranced out into a transcendental meditation and need to be returned to full consciousness by my husband to go home! Every time, I would be really annoyed with myself but it amused my husband, who would enjoy some rare peace and quiet in his life, for once!! 🤣😂

Here is John Martyn in full concert at a fantastic gig in Dublin:

One of the absolute legends. It's a blessing to be able to go through his podcasts, writings and interviews today, and realise he was correct on all counts. It's very hard for me to find anything he predicted which has not come to pass, or is not signalled as an eventuality.

Love listening to Alan. I was very impressed by a certain story he told about speaking at a college commencement. He explained that one should do what they loved to do, no matter what that is, no matter what others said. If you really loved it, and spent many hours doing it, eventually one would become good enough to earn a living at it. Simple, but profound, and so against the grain of the modern method of “success”. Great post Frances.

I like your comment, and oddly enough for me, I like your handle. ^_^

It’s actually a song by Purple Mountains, from the late David Berman. Worth a listen, as it seems to sum up modern American culture rather neatly for me

Cool. I'll check it out. ^_^
