10cc , "I'm not in Love" has to be one of the best songs written. I was listening to this the other day and it made me cry. I wish I wrote this song. I like that you post songs along with your stories. I am having a blast!

They are an integral part of my stories. The whole atmosphere of the time is conveyed by playing them as you read. This is why I don't want to publish in book form - how would the music and photos, even the political links (which come later) work on paper? I like the multimedia way of creating the scene.

As always, drawn in from the outset and as usual a lovely and engaging read. Respect & X 2 All

in the early 80’s my college girlfriend was a event banquet server at the Newport Beach Marriott Hotel and Margaret Thatcher was speaking. afterwards Margaret Thatcher exited the back way by the kitchen and bumped into my friend who said she was very kind and polite.

Just the mention of her name causes huge arguments even to this day in the UK. Many of us remember her impact by nicknames like Thatcher the Milk Snatcher, The Iron Lady and the awful refrain "ding dong the witch is dead". She decimated many of our industries and condemned huge areas to abject unemployment. When asked what the people should do for an income in those areas she famously said "Get on your bike!" This video achieved 2 million views, even though it is quite nasty! https://youtu.be/ILvd5buCEnU

globalization has been a raw deal… possibly she & Ronald Regan would have second thoughts if they knew the final outcome 😿

ooooo I love this and look forward to your Sunday 'what happens next.' I wish I'd had more sex when I was young!!, I was chritian and my knees were glued together. I rediscovered it a bit after my marriage ended mid 40's and realised I'd been settling for rubbish and what I'd missed out on. I'm vicariously enjoying your memories 😉

I was not sure how to write about it. The future episodes of the story wouldn't make sense without explaining the deep relationships and bonds I had when I was young..... but I was afraid of being thought of as licentious. Today, the young do not seem to have the same joy in the things of youth as we had. The 70s were such a brief decade of 'free love' that I am glad I was there (so to speak). It was a whirlwind of hedonism really and I was deeply saddened that it came to a nasty close when AIDS was splashed all over the press. What a horror that all was......

Yes you are right the joy has been shucked out of the simple things.

And there is still such a double standard over how with think of women who enjoy sex (all of us) and aren't virgins till a monogamous marriage compared to the same behaviour in men.

The whole Aids thing was about encouraging homophobia and making lots of money, and stopping people having fun with the new the hypocritical morality- still now in play with guilt over not wearing masks and killing granny x

Do I? Oh good! I am so glad that I was not the only one bouncing from highs to lows and back again! At the time I thought we were all so mature..... but we were still inexperienced children in our hearts. Thanks for following the series, Renee xx
