I used to do that, but find myself not wanting to any longer. Just too exhausting and I still don't know what the 'truth' is on most things. I have strong opinions, that's all. Most of them come from my gut; not the 'media'...I agree, not very scientific nor reliable. Tell me this: unless you are a highly influential person, why get all excited ? I have no influence whatsoever, so I am escaping into ART. Always my best friend...

My best friend in activism was an artist. The first time I saw her she and a couple of friends were silently walking on a British beach over-dressed and wearing gas masks. The impact was amazing on all the tourists. It was a scorcher of a day but these students wanted to convey their message. Later I found out who they were and befriended them.

Every action she took was an art form. We went to Greenham Common and she spent days creating rag art on the fence. It was beautiful but it also concealed a place where the fence had been cut.....

Thank you, Frances. I am a bit like your friend there, the only old woman in Victoria who paraded a home made protest sign in front of a locked public park at the beginning of the pandemic when we desperately needed a place of escape...and discovered that my best friend (she is no longer) did not support me.
