It was just waiting to happen despite all the assurances that it wouldn't.

The robot lover sounds real good.. much like the pet, no feeding necessary and you can program as much whine as is cute but not so much as to be aggravating.

Everything that mankind produces always has two sides to it. Take drugs as an example, used properly they can produce great outcomes, abused, well we’ve seen the damages that they cause. Does it mean we outlaw all drugs? I think not. Robots are no different. We can all see the pro and cons of robots. Humans have a dark side to themselves unfortunately. So yes robots I’m worried about.

I find these robots both creepy and sinister, as well as closely involved in the Ahrimanic agenda for transhumanism and The Eighth Sphere.

It is also clear that they are intended to replace humans in many workplaces. I have no problem with supplementing the human workforce in some circumstances; but it would be wrong to force a human out of a job.

It seems that some believe that having millions of people of working age permanently at leisure collecting universal basic income while robots do all the work and generate profits to fund universal basic incomes is an attractive idea. I can see the attraction; but I also believe there would be innumerable unintended consequences causing social problems, etc.

Like uhh... getting rid of the surplus humans maybe?

Yes, of course. That's one of the reasons why the robots are sinister.

Big dog was found to be to noisy on the battlefield and was rejected by the US Army and USMC. Boston Dynamics is now owned by Hyundai from S.Korea. They are hoping to develop Spot in a variety of applications including fire & rescue as well as the industrial and space environment. As a domestic robot Spot has the potential to assist elderly and disabled people. Problems exist with battery duration and systems maintenance. Cost is a limiting factor at the moment. Robots already exist in a wide range of medicine and industrial applications. If you shop online then it's very likely that your groceries were selected by a robot.

Thanks for the nuggets of info, Phil - and for drawing my attention to robotics on GETTR. Much appreciated xx

Typically, the promos declare these robots are for friendly purposes only. lol

To make 'our' lives easier, more efficient. Ha!

MIT is a major Pentagon incubator and contractor. Much of its funding derives from the laughably named 'Defense' Department.

Spot- the canine version- has been seen with law enforcement patrolling Boston Common- the public gardens in that city. Also home to MIT. (Technically it is situated in Cambridge- across the Charles River).

The beehive of military tech should be renamed Military Institute Of Technology. Probably 90% of its r n d is for...defense. <wink, wink>

Great great! What could possibly go wrong? Look where we're at now with a pandemic supposedly? We know exactly who was involved.

having worked on robots in two jobs they have enough flaws to out wit them at the moment, they have a long way to go and will require tank like defences and a supercomputer mind. getting close enough to spray paint over their cameras might be tricky but not impossible. they let a simple robot out in the real world and it got vandalised pretty quick https://www.theverge.com/2015/8/2/9087171/hitchbot-cross-country-trip-comes-to-unfortunate-end

Watching the vids, I was thinking even I could knock those suckers down! At the very least I could out -dance them. 😂

They will have to be armed, at this stage, to be 'effective'.

What other purpose?
