I am loving this Frances thank you for posting. I also think it's more rocky than drum and bassy but also don't care a hoot. The Beatles used 12 bar blues and made it their own and said something new. That's kinda what music and art and life is!

The bit where they did the Prodigy rift from voodoo people actually gave me repeating goose bumps.

I like how they dress like they work in IT, ironic or something.

My spin teacher plays a lot of this stuff, I bet he was there x

When I first fell in love with Pendulum I had no idea what genre they were supposed to be. It was completely irrelevant to me. My son told me they are drum & bass.... when he found my CD in the glove compartment of the dashboard. He was impressed that I had even heard of them. I don't understand why music has to be pedantically categorised into separate genres. It seems daft to me - music is either great or it is not. Some Queen and Led Zep is almost classical, so is Pink Floyd. Do you think Bach or Beethoven turn in their graves over those associations? lmfao!

I think Bach would love it, his music is great to dance to. I think Beethoven was already deaf from too much moshing at death metal concerts x

Ahhhh Pendulum up there with the likes of the Prodigy and Lunatic Calm all most Nice. But I am highly aware of Alan Watt and his cultural revolutions quotes for a desired end product.

Good for you Granny, good for you!

Lol that's what I get for skimming text ... believe it or not I watched 10 minutes of the Reading Festival waiting for a 70-year old granny to hit the stage. I kid you not! Jumped forward a few times and saw no granny. By the time I got to 20 minutes, I was like how am I supposed to know when granny hits the stage, maybe it says in the text... that's when I learned I dupped myself!

Well if you're not that granny on stage, I'd certainly love to be! They are really good 🔥

Frances, this is a rock band disguised as drum & bass; fake. And I dislike fake. But cool for you nevertheless...

Does anyone really give a flying fuck about music biz genres? How can you label this quality stuff 'fake'? If it was mimed or purely computer generated I might agree but Pendulum are actually better live than they are in a production studio!

Expand full comment

I have OCD with music genres ! I did not comment on the quality of the music, just that Pendulum is not real drum & bass.

Here is some real D&B https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nQ4uUiCiUpU for you. I hope you enjoy that...

Not really! I don't find watching beer swilling knob fiddlers producing disjointed computerised sounds nicked, copied and pasted from other artists quite as awesome and skilful as watching real musicians enhancing banging bass and epic drum work with cosmic technological genius. They really raise the roof, don't you think?

So blurring the lines between genres or even bothering about such categories and distinctions seems petty to me. One thing for sure tho - it AIN'T fake.

So, musicality excluding, do you think the precise use of terminology, defintions and precision of language may have something to do with the way lines are blurred and what we suffered with "pandemics", "vaccines" and "safety" and "effectiveness"?

Language is the #1 weapon.

Language is used to communicate ideas and therefore influence people.

Therefore let's keep our terms, terminologies and definitions precise and unambiguous...let's only call drum & bass drum & bass, rock music rock music, a man someone with a penis, a woman someone with a vagina, and let us not redefine what a pandemic is at will, a gene altering program, a case, an infection, death with, without or thereabout, what safety signls are, what effectiveness means, the purpose of a vaccine to be prevention that meaning stopping from conducting a condition.

Do I need to go on to prove my point on why Pendulum are not drum & bass and why I have OCD with language?

Let's not delve in blissed hypnosis in a world where War Is Peace, Freedom Is Slavery, Ignorance Is Strength, black is white or even grey and Pendulum are drum & bass !!!

Say no to blurred lines. Say yes to clear lines. Newspeak is fake.
