I had high hopes for the French over the Covid BS. I live there and we were subjected to some of the most draconian nonsense in Europe. The protests were poorly attended and the "police" here just can't wait to crack skulls, even when they and their kids will obviously suffer too.
I had to help a friend who was stranded, homeless in France during lockdown. It was difficult for him to travel, shop or even talk to people. Via the Gilets Jaunes network we found him a job and a home. It was a mad dash at the time but the network is there, still operating in the background. Of course it was wise to grin and bear the lockdowns, we all had to do that. However, I am no less defiant so I presume the same can be said for my friends in Europe.
I'm happy to hear that, and yes, I also witnessed many acts of rebellion. The problem is, I used to think disobeying the government was the definition of being "French". So many people got brainwashed by this and I have lost respect for a huge amount of people.
I still remember the poll that showed that the majority of French people thought Covid had an IFR of over 15%!
Media influence during lockdown was epic. Even social media was cleaned out of rebellion. Sanitised to within an inch of its life. Now they think we trust Lone Skum to restore our faith in Twitter.... man, don't they know that trust, once broken, is the Humpty Dumpty of our formative years?
