I dunno about you but, if I spent any more than a month travelling around the world, I would get terribly home sick. Then as soon as I got back home, I hated it and couldn't wait to get away on some other adventure.

Cool story. My high school buddy Joey Pickens, an awesome guitarist, played on stage with Lynyrd S very early 70s somewhere in Alabama before moving to CA. RIP Joey.

Fantastic! Frances! Enjoy so much hearing about your fun times!

I Got the Harley :-)

LOVE Lynard Skynard . Best band of all time!! What a thrill seeing them in concert. Got to see them back in 77 at Oakland. Gary Rossington, Forever Loved, Forever Missed, Forever Remembered.

Fun read. As an American who is so often morrified at what is being done to the world by the elites in our name, it's nice to think of Harleys and Southern rock as our better exports. You've a beautiful spirit, Frances!

Something to be said for the feeling of freedom one feels while riding! A sensation all of its own! And the great memories they help create!

What a life you've led, Frances!

Thanks for the retrospective road trip. Never got into motorcycles, but I had an epic Austin, TX to San Francisco, CA 36-hour solo drive back in the mid-1970s, chemical free but for caffeine. Not so much prairie like in Toxicanadian's neighborhood, but the Western USA does have some distant horizons with mountains out the side window. Are you still scootering & swimming? Be well.

Expand full comment

Yes, I am scootering and swimming but not so often because there are lots of children using the pool in their school summer holidays. It gets a wee bit too noisy for me atm!

Similar here...in summer, I have to get up by 7AM or thereabouts in order to get a lap lane by 9AM so I can do my 30 minutes before they let the boundary-reluctant junior citizens into the pool. They're all back in school now, so I can sleep in a bit before swimming. Recently, with input from an online friend/ally, I have a new set of Lotto numbers to play and if they hit the big jackpot tonight, I'll buy you a pool. {It's up to 500M USD, now, so I'll have a few left over for other things...don't be surprised if I ask for suggestions. :-) }

lol - I don't have room for a pool at my place! In UK our back yards are usually just big enough for a dog and a clothes line! 😂

Well, if we hit the big one, maybe it'll be easier to just buy a commercial property and install a pool there. Don't go looking for an estate agent yet, though...the odds are staggeringly bad. But...stranger things have happened.

Great story!

I actually have Frisian roots, since my mom was (RIP) a Fries (surname), although American born.

What another fantastic Frances yarn to read!

Thank you for sharing all your stories, good, bad and downright harrowing 💞

Frances, you ARE a leader !!👍👍

Btw: Flat-land definitively has its perks: You already see on Friday who's comin' for a cup-of-tea on Saturday ... Cars and tarmac entirely destroyed this relaxing certainty ...

Expand full comment

Lol. True! On the prairies of Canada it's a common joke that you can watch your dog run away..... For weeks 🤣

Expand full comment

Oh wow - those prairies must be massive! England doesn’t have big expanses like that, so I find it really hard to imagine! The fens of Cambridgeshire and surrounding counties are old marshes which were drained centuries ago. They represent the only really flat lands we have in England. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Fens

Scotland, Wales and Ireland don’t have much flat land either!

My son asked me if I had heard from Syd recently (he is now 75) and I suddenly realised that when I wrote my autobiography I had accidentally missed out this special time. Had to put that right immediately!

I'm so glad you got right with the whirled Lol :) WE need to remember our "antique bikers" ... My 73 yr old Antique Biker assures me that it's for the good of humanity.

I wholeheartedly agree! Good Times!

I'm definitely showing him this later!

Syd is still riding his Harleys on road trips to Europe. His son sent me several short videos from their latest run out to Switzerland earlier this summer.
