The topic is extremely important, yet hardly ever publicized. The article has been sorely needed.

The first popular book on the subject is from 1991:

You may notice that "alkaline water" is being sold that is probably only filtered water and a little sodium bicarbonate (= baking soda).

An oncologist pediatrician in Rome, Italy, used to treat children's cancer with sodium bicarbonate diluted in water. Still, it's not for everyone. The good thing about the method is that it's fast. The problem with it is that it can raise blood pressure and create deposits in the kidneys, resulting in kidney stones. I have met with heavy drinkers in my life, who consumed baking soda in large quantities, but it was not a stroke or a kidney stone, but their liver that killed them.

I put a sprinkling of bicarbonate of soda and another of sea salt in every 4 litres of distilled water I make. I have done this for 5 years now. Dr Robert Young has a clinic in Italy and I really wish I had the money to go for therapy there but it is very expensive.

How do you feel about "Himalayan" salt? My impression is that too much of it is fake. I can taste the difference between rock salt and chemically-manufactured salt, and what stores are selling is mostly the latter with some pink food coloring...

We ran out of the real pink Himalayan salt which we bought years ago. My son is trying out Cornish Sea Salt purely because it is locally produced.

I'm a bit afraid of what's in seawater these days! :)

It is high in magnesium and I need that because I get cramps.

Have you tried Epsom salt? I use the Dr. Teal's bubble bath all the time! Luckily, I have no Kalium/potassium deficiency (even organic bananas give me a bad stomach).
