There are times when words fail.... but images collected over the years convey so much more.... the rituals, the symbols, the heat, the smells and the voodoo of burning effigies.
Very interesting and predictive. How are the themes selected and by whom? It appears to communicate an annual script. As in a given notice to the illusion (presumptions) of a public.
Me either, but both of these events look absolutely smashing! Would love to see them in person, but global travel is pretty much out of reach for a variety of reasons :(
The 2019 picture looks like Giselle Maxwell. Pretty creepy event and people.
It is chaotic and fierce. The hatred for Roman Catholicism is rampant.
And for good reason!

The effigies are created by four different groups and their choices are a dire secret. The effigies always represent prominent politicians and clergy.
It's Mardi Gras with lots of fire and macabre. 😎
In terms of "fiery spectacles", how does this event compare with Hogmanay in Edinburgh?
I have never been to Hogmanay in Edinburgh.

looks like UK version of Burning Man 🙀
I guess so. 5th of November is a national event. Everyone has bonfire parties, Lewes is just the most extreme.
Quite a few mixed metaphors in the images.
That looks fun 🤩
Guy fawkes was a very interesting character in history. Wish the kids of today understood history better😉👍
