humanitarian disaster 360... praying for the everyday peoples caught up in this deadly nonsense... here in USA Putin is the new uni-party orange man / dr. evil... that said, if your mental case neighbor has a biological meth lab going in his basement the logical thing would be to do something about it... no?

Actually, your opening thesis is incorrect. The US was only one year ago, and energy exporter. Biden closed down the oil and gas leases, and stopped Keystone, because his family interests are in Ukraine's gas market.

As for the US needing Russia, we are the only nation on the planet who can literally wall ourselves off, and remain completely self sufficient. We now have to two largest oil reserves in the world under the Bakken Shale, and now in West Texas plains. Russia cannot last two years without the 80% import of our grains and other farm products. Russia is not well known for such extremely fertile farm land like we have here in the US. We have very rich soil, and considerable long growing seasons. We can produce 4 crops of corn, 3 crops of wheat, 4 crops of barley, soy, and potatoes a year below the 38th parallel, known as the Mason Dixon line.

Russia is our No. 2 export for agriculture goods. I'll provide a link. China is the no. 2 because for political reasons, and trade agreements. We sell to Chinese trade firms, who then sell to Russia. China has ample farming land. It really has no need to import agri from the US. Russia cannot nuke the US because it NEEDS our farm land. Which is why we put our nuclear silos in the middle are farmers' fields. To attach our missile silos is to destroy the only thing Russia would really invade for, the farm land.
