Yesterday I wrote an article which detailed the torturous and frustrating journey I have had on social media.
Today I was chatting on the phone with a friend from the anti-fracking campaign. He is admin of a group I started on Facebook, Anti-Fracking International. I am unable to access that group but my name still appears there as the founder. It creates the illusion that I am still present on Facebook even though my account has been completely disabled and I am restricted from accessing ANYTHING on Facebook.
During the conversation my friend commented that he is receiving my emails via Substack. I asked him what he does with them…..
There was an awkward silence.
It transpired that he did not realise that he needed to click the headline to switch through to Substack and be able to like, comment and share the articles!
I suddenly realised why I was not hearing from my thousands of old followers! Substack reproduces the entirety of my articles in email form and the 700 recipients do not understand that I depend on them to circulate my work on all the social media platforms where I have been excluded.
This realisation floored me.
I have deliberately made my Substack free of charge because I do not see why my subscribers should have to pay to read my work. They received it free of charge for 12 years before I was chased off every platform, why should anyone pay now?
If you really want to help me to overcome the censorship and cancel culture which has relegated me to the shadows, the way to do so is simple!
Looks like you have a following of several people not on social media. It’s a cesspool and the smartest among us don’t engage. There is benefit in sharing, but we tend to stay in endless loops of those things we “agree” with so who knows how many are actually reached that way. I do like your articles here though. :)
I quit FB after 1 week; Instagram after 2.
Never touched Twitter. The reason I hunt around Substack is so that I don’t have to be tied into groups that aren’t really kindred.
(Yesterday you made a reply about watching a YouTube channel on dogs.) I would pay for your content. I know very few with whom to share it. I appreciate your dilemma. You’re an activist. Thanks
