“Shortly after the Prince of Wales, the NATO flagship, sailed last Saturday, a mechanical fault was discovered with the starboard shaft. The departure of the 65,000-tonne ship had already been delayed from the previous day because of a technical problem but a decision was taken to sail anyway. The carrier sailed back slowly to Stokes Bay at Gosport, Hampshire, on Monday travelling at a rate of four knots accompanied by [3] tugs for the return journey to calmer waters.”

I am wondering whether to pop down to a Bookmakers and lay a bet that, when investigations are complete, the British Government blames the damage on a Russian stealthy submarine giving it a passing nudge or some such thing.

Never one to miss an opportunity to blame the Russians for every little hiccup I can see Liz Truss earnestly declaring that this violation of British waters will be avenged…. let’s watch this space…. get popcorn!
